01 — Founder & Principal

Dr. Daniel Gies — Founder & Principal

Daniel Gies is a development-finance and private-sector specialist with more than 25 years of international experience leading donor- and IFI-funded programmes and advising financial institutions, development banks and private-sector partners. His work spans development finance, blended finance, agricultural and SME finance, climate and green finance, guarantees, leasing, investment mobilisation, institutional strengthening, applied research and impact assessment.

He has led multidisciplinary teams and complex technical-assistance programmes across Africa, Europe and Asia, including assignments linked to the World Bank, EIB, EBRD, KfW, GIZ, AFD/PROPARCO, USAID and other development partners. His recent work includes leadership of green and agricultural finance facilities, development-bank capacity building, market diagnostics, impact measurement and financial-product development.

Daniel holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), a Master of Philosophy in Management and an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management. His doctoral research examined the impact of Rwanda’s Farm Service Center model on agro-dealer and farmer performance. He works in English, French, German and Serbo-Croatian.

Caroline Tsilikounas — Senior Principal

Caroline Tsilikounas is a financial-inclusion and institutional-development leader with more than 25 years of international experience supporting banks, microfinance institutions, investment funds, SMEs and development partners across Europe, the Western Balkans, Africa and Latin America. Her expertise includes SME and microfinance strategy, technical assistance, financial-product development, agricultural and sustainable finance, non-financial services, impact measurement, governance and organisational change.

Caroline has held senior executive roles including General Manager of the European Microfinance Network, Regional Director with VisionFund International and Director of Capacity Building at Oikocredit. She has managed multi-country programmes, substantial technical-assistance portfolios and large teams, and has worked with development partners including the European Union, EBRD, IFC, CGAP and the World Bank.

Her research and evaluation experience includes the EU/ACP Microfinance Programme evaluation, quantitative and qualitative household research, AIMS-based impact assessment, peer-reviewed microfinance research and work on client assessment and product/service innovation. Caroline holds a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University and works in French, English, Spanish and Serbo-Croatian.
